In 2013, the Relay For Life Kilkenny planted a Tree of Hope to spread the ashes of the Candle of Hope luminaries on the roots of the tree. This Copper Beech tree is special to the community and helps to stand as a symbol of the Relay Spirit, of the community fighting back against cancer, and of HOPE. In the summer, the leaves of the tree even turn purple!
This past November, the Relay For Life Kilkenny wanted to continue to honor the luminaria that were dedicated at their Candle of Hope ceremony. In order to engage the community and to continue the remembrance and sharing of memories, this event in Ireland held a special memorial ceremony to spread the ashes of the luminaria bags from their 2014 Relay For Life event.
